The Certificate in Criminal Justice Leadership equips current and aspiring criminal justice professionals with the critical thinking skills and leadership competencies necessary to succeed in law enforcement agencies’ leadership roles. Through a curriculum grounded in advanced leadership theory, research methods, and a hands-on capstone experience, students will be able to critically assess and navigate the complexities of organizational behavior, ethical decision-making, policy analysis, and evidence-based practices. This program emphasizes critical thinking, problem-solving, and the application of interdisciplinary approaches to meet criminal justice leadership’s unique demands and challenges.
Upon successful completion of the program of study, students should be able to:
- Critically analyze various leadership theories and models, evaluating their applicability and effectiveness in addressing challenges within criminal justice organizations.
- Develop strategies for building effective teams, managing personnel, promoting ethical conduct, and fostering a positive organizational culture in criminal justice contexts.
- Apply research methodologies, data collection techniques, and statistical analysis to inform decision-making, policy development, and evidence-based practices in criminal justice.
- Evaluate strategies for professional development, career advancement, and cultivating future leaders within criminal justice organizations.
- Incorporate knowledge from various disciplines to propose solutions to complex leadership scenarios through case studies and simulations, including crisis management, critical incidents, and organizational change.
- Create and execute a comprehensive capstone project that integrates and applies the knowledge, skills, and competencies acquired throughout the program to address a current issue or challenge a criminal justice agency faces.
In addition to Great Bay transfer credit policies, transfer of courses in criminal justice more than ten years old will be individually evaluated by the program coordinator.
